The Reception will be followed by a Creative Writing Workshop inspired by Paul’s photos 7-7:45PM and then ARTS By The People’s monthly literary open mic, The Platform from 8-9:30PM.
Artist Talk and Free Photo Workshop: Nov. 29, 12-1:30PM at Madison Community Arts Center.
Paul will discuss his photos, talk about his process and go through the steps involved in creating compositions in collaboration with a model. Participants will then have an opportunity to photograph. Bring Your Camera. No advance sign-up necessary.

About the series:
As a photographer and writer, I often think about how photographs can be composed in the same manner in which I write poems. I’ve learned (by trial and error) that if I am present with my subject the moment before I look through my camera lens, we can inspire each other and build an artistic connection. If this happens, the shared narrative shifts from my imagination to creation—similar to my writing process.
In my new series, Poems Not Yet Written, I explore these connections through the use of contrasting light. Light and shadow become a way of quietly revealing both vulnerability and strength, drawing attention to subtle gestures and details—the movement of a hand, the expressions in a face, objects surrounding the subject—which uncover the layers of the story.
While each photograph captures a single moment, it also leaves space for the viewer to imagine what came before and what might follow. These photographs are invitations to pause, observe, and find meaning in quiet moments of human connection. Next to the display, you will find a small journal and pen. As you view the exhibit, we encourage you to use a single photo—or the entire series—as inspiration for your own poem.
